A BOYFRIEND has appeared in court today and denied murdering his Chinese girlfriend who was found dead in their home.

Matthews had been in a relationship with Xixi for more than a year after she came to study at Cardiff University.

Xixi grew up in Nanjing in China but came to Oxford to study as a teenager before moving to Wales.

Her body was flown back to her family in the Far East after her death.

Matthews and Xixi lived together in their home on Ely Road, Llandaff, Cardiff, where police found Xixi dead.

He appeared at Cardiff Crown Court via video link for a pre-trial hearing where he denied murder.

Judge, the Recorder of Cardiff, Eleri Rees said Matthew' trial would take place on February 6 next year.

Matthews, of Llandaff, Cardiff, was remanded in custody.
