Outrage as Russian Embassy brands Europeans ‘gay pigs’ in shocking Twitter post slamming the ‘decline’ of the West
Tweet quickly sparks calls for Russian ambassador to be hauled to Number 10 and expelled from Britain
THE RUSSIAN embassy in London has sparked outrage after depicting Europeans as gay pigs.
A bizarre picture posted on its Twitter account shows Russia as a muscular bear, while the Eurozone is portrayed as a pig pen with a rainbow flag -- a symbol of gay rights.
The tweet, which was retweeted over 1,200 times, appeared with the message: "If Russia is in decline, why worry?
"Maybe, real worry is West's decline and that we manage things better?"
It quickly led to calls Russia's ambassador to the UK Alexander Yakovenko be hauled to Number 10 for an explanation or be expelled from Britain.
Some have compared the depiction of Europe to a concentration camp.
“This is a genuine tweet from the Russian Embassy depicting Europeans as pigs flying gay pride flags", one Twitter user wrote.
“Not sure if the stars in the image are meant to mean something either but this tweet from Russian Embassy is full of all kinds of fascism.”
Another user added: “This cartoon is disgusting.”
Russian state hostility to gay rights has been widely criticised, but president Vladimir Putin has insisted the West has "exaggerated" its supposed homophobia.
The latest war of words comes as tensions between the West and Russia have been intensifying.
Yesterday, the Russian fleet that passed through the English Channel on its way to bomb Syria was seen stalking Gibraltar.
Led by rustbucket aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, the taskforce had planned to stopover for fuel at a Spanish port just 20 miles from the British territory.
Russia suddenly withdrew the request when Western leaders put pressure on Spain to front-up to Putin.
Meanwhile, a Russian fleet travelling through the Baltic Sea is believed to be on its way to the Russian territory of Kaliningrad -- just 880 miles from London.
They are armed with nuclear-capable Kalibr missles -- codenamed 'Sizzlers' -- which have a range of over 900 miles, putting Britain and her European allies in the firing line.
NATO confirmed that it would send 4,000 troops to Eastern Europe next year to stem the threat of Russian invasion.
The task force will include 800 British troops plus British tanks, jets and drones.
