Petition started to let the rest of the UK vote on throwing Scotland out of the union for its anti-Brexit stance

But the hashtag #ThrowScotlandOut has been hijacked by pro-independence Scots – who actually want to leave

AFTER the Scottish voters had their say in staying the UK – a petition has been started to give the rest of the union a vote on whether they should now be kicked out.

Thousands have signed up to the idea after Nicola Sturgeon has repeatedly said she wants a special deal for her country as the UK exits the EU.

The First Minister was in London this week urging Theresa May to consider a ‘flexible Brexit’ for her nation, as more than 60% of people voted Remain in the June 23 referendum.

But the petition argues that there hasn’t been enough discussion about Scotland’s benefit to the centuries-old union, or the benefits or not of staying in it.

It caught fire on social media, with the hashtag #ThrowScotlandOut trending on Twitter – but the idea seems to have been hijacked by Scottish nationalists who want to be thrown out of the UK.

The original 8,000-strong petition, on site 38Degrees, has since been deleted - but another one was has been created on the site.

This one has more than 6,000 signatures – but if you look on a map of where the signatories are from it is overwhelmingly by Scots themselves, showing that pro-independence supporters are trying to use it to get themselves kicked out of the union.

The text of the petition reads: “Scotland had their Referendum to be independent.

“The SNP want to Remain in the EU against the will of English and Welsh voters.

“Therefore I believe England, Wales and Northern Ireland should get the chance to have their Referendum to vote Scotland out of the U.K.”

It would need more than 10,000 signatures to get a Government response, and more than 100,000 to be considered for a debate by parliament.

But despite pushes for a second independence referendum by the SNP, the Prime Minister has repeatedly said there will not be another vote.

So it seems unlikely the rest of the UK will have their say on kicking Scotland out.
