Police divers are searching lake at popular beauty spot after 22-year-old vanished a week ago

Melanie Wilson was last seen just before midnight on Wednesday with police now broadening their search

POLICE divers have been called in as the search for missing woman Melanie Wilson enters into its second week.

The 22-year-old woman was last seen just before midnight on Wednesday, October 19, with fears for her safety escalating.

Detective Inspector Rebecca Hodgman, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "It's now been a week since Melanie went missing and we haven't had any credible sightings of her.

"We continue our search for her and ask that anyone who has seen her to get in touch."

Underwater search teams today began scouring a lake at Sutton Lawn Park, in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts.

Det Insp Hodgman said it was unusual that Melanie had not been active on social media.

She said: "Melanie hasn’t got her mobile phone with her, which is concerning for someone who is so active on social media, and we don’t think she has taken any provisions with her."

Police said the young woman was white, about 5ft 6ins tall, has blonde hair and is of a slim build.

She was last seen in the Mansfield area at about 11.20pm.

Police said that anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting incident 858 of 21 October 2016.
