‘Noisy’ porn heard playing through solicitor’s computer in court, forcing judge to stop hearing

A JUDGE stopped a court hearing when “noisy” porn was heard playing through a solicitor’s computer.

Recorder Jeremy Richardson, KC, halted the drugs-into-jail smuggling hearing for a week when attempts to mute the X-rated racket failed.

The sounds came through video platform CVP, used by solicitors for some of the 13 defendants appearing remotely for the plea and directions hearing. Other accused were in Sheffield crown court with their briefs.

One barrister said: “There had been porn noises coming through on the CVP.

“Everybody in court heard it. It was loud and it was obvious.” The barrister said Recorder Richardson asked a solicitor to mute their microphone but the sex noises continued.

The lawyer said his computer had been hacked. He added: “It’s so strange how easily you can be hacked these days.”

Defendants in the case, which was adjourned for a week, are accused of smuggling drugs and mobile phones into jail.

More defendants have attended court remotely since the Covid pandemic, with judges having the final say.
