British Airways bans Samsung Note 7 from its flights amid fears the phones could explode in mid-air

BRITISH Airways has BANNED fire-prone Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones from its flights.

From midnight tonight, passengers will no longer be allowed to bring the devices onto BA planes.

In a statement, BA wrote: "The safety and security of our customers and crew is always our top priority and as a result we have new guidelines for customers who own a Samsung Galaxy Note7 device.

"Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone devices will be banned from all British Airways operated flights from 23:59 (local time wherever you are in the world) on the evening of Tuesday 25 October."

"This is following the official recall of Samsung Galaxy Note7 phones and an increasing number of countries banning the devices from air transportation."

The Samsung smartphones are already banned from flights in a number of countries including America, where anyone who breaks the ban could face a fine of up to £148,000.

The BA ban covers all parts of the plane, meaning you can't check one into the hold.

British Airways added: "You will be unable to transport the device on your person, in your hand baggage, or in your checked baggage. The phones also cannot be shipped as air cargo."
