The Met Office is forecasting heavy rain across all parts of the UK from Tuesday.

This is set to include heavy and thundery showers and be accompanied by windy gales on Thursday.

Temperatures are predicted to drop closer to the cold usually expected in November, after an unseasonably mild spell in the past few weeks.

As for today, a flood alert remains in place for the area around the River Derwent in Derbyshire, with the prospect of heavier rain on the way.

However, the rest of the country is mostly set to see some sunny spells as morning fog clears.

Rain is, though, expected in Northern Ireland later.

Low cloud and fog is expected to thicken into the evening, as a band of rain sweeps across the West.

Monday is likely to be overcast and drizzly in most areas.

The weather is then forecast to take a sudden turn for the worse on Tuesday as storms roll in.

Further rain is then expected throughout Wednesday in some areas and Thursday in most parts of the country.

Friday may then be a little brighter, but going into next week the weather remains "unsettled".
