Former Premier League star Shaun Wright-Phillips fined for driving his £50,000 Range Rover without a licence

FORMER Premier League and England star Shaun Wright-Phillips has been fined more than £200 for driving a £50,000 Range Rover without a licence.

Wright-Phillips, 34, was summonsed after he was caught driving the luxury 4x4 in Bethnal Green, east London, on April 16 this year.

The winger, who played for Manchester City, Chelsea, and Queens Park Rangers in his Premier League career, avoided jail in 2013 for driving while disqualified because he didn't know he was banned.

He had missed a string of summons after his £200,000 Bentley was clocked doing 79mph on a 50mph stretch at Esher, Surrey, because they were sent to his agent's address.

Then the winger was handed a £800 fine after vowing to open all his mail even if it was junk.

Wright-Phillips' latest case for using a vehicle without a valid license was heard administratively at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court.

He was fined £220 and ordered to pay costs.

Born in Greenwich, Wright-Phillips made 153 appearances for Manchester City between 1999 and 2005, scoring 26 goals.

He moved to Chelsea for £21million where he scored 4 goals in 81 games.

In 2008 he rejoined Manchester City and scored 9 goals in 64 appearances.

The star also made 36 appearances for England, netting six times.

The adopted son of former England international and Arsenal legend Ian Wright, now plays in America the MLS for New York Red Bulls where he is reported to be earning £75,700 a year.

Wright-Phillips, of Whitedowns, Shere Road, West Horsley, Surrey, was fined £220 and ordered to pay costs of £85, with back duty of £85, for using a vehicle without a valid licence.
