Stretches of the road were closed for a short period of time but all lanes are now open.

Police scuppered one woman's attempt to get up completely on a gantry ahead of J28 near Brentwood, Essex.

Officers climbed up after another idiot who got on top of one by Junction 8 near Reigate, Surrey.

And Kent Police arrested five suspected activists when patrols stopped a car near Westerham and the M25. D-locks and banners were seized.

The motorway was also shut in parts of Hertfordshire today.

Essex Police has charged three people with public nuisance in connection with yesterday's disruption on the M25.

Chief Superintendent Simon Anslow said: "Our response this morning was extremely quick with officers arresting a woman before she had the opportunity to cause further disruption.

"We put a single lane closure in place to protect our officer and the detained person on the hard shoulder and our working-at-heights team were there within two minutes to give support - it took just 31 minutes before all lanes were reopened completely.

"We're learning more every day about this group's tactics and we continually review our own tactics to prevent crime and serious disruption on our roads.

"We appreciate that it has been frustrating for those stuck in traffic - and that police forces across the country have received a lot of criticism about how we've handled the disruption this week."

Yesterday a police chief warned the selfish protesters that "someone will be killed" as a result of their disruption.

Yesterday a police motorcyclist was injured in a serious crash during the Just Stop Oil protests.

Essex Police chief constable BJ Harrington has warned it is "only a matter of time" before someone is killed because of the protests.

He said: "It's devastating. Our officers have been out there doing the best they can to protect the public and keep the roads moving.

"As a result of their bravery and commitment, one of them gets hurt."

He went on: "I think it is only a matter of time before somebody gets killed.

"The only way this is going to stop is if Just Stop Oil frankly grow up and realise they are putting people's lives at risk."
