Angelina, 41, went public about her double mastectomy in 2013 after finding out she had a high risk of the cancer.
She lost her mum, gran and aunt to the disease.
California researchers want to find out why the risk-reducing ops have become more common. Their figures show a quarter of newly diagnosed patients have it.
The docs trawled online breast cancer forums and found the fear the disease may come back was the most frequent reason.
Dr Rebecca Marmor said: “We want to understand why women choose this even with resistance from their own surgeons.”
