Dozens of big-hearted readers join our campaign to make blankets for Ukraine as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak lends support
BIG-HEARTED Sun on Sunday readers have been knitting blankets for Ukraine, as the PM backed our campaign.
We launched our drive last week and have already received scores of covers for those in need.
Rishi Sunak said: “The generosity and kindness of the British people towards Ukraine as it battles Putin’s illegal invasion has been inspiring.
“Now, thanks to The Sun on Sunday’s brilliant knit a blanket campaign, I know even more Brits will provide further comfort and protection for the people of Ukraine.”
The need is urgent as a third of Ukraine has no heating and temperatures will soon fall to -20C at night.
Our growing Yarny Army includes Eric Starsmore, 81, who learned to knit as a child.

Eric, of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorks, said: “I’m going to knit a blue and yellow blanket, in the colours of the Ukraine flag.”
His pals Joyce Baxtrem, 92, and Judith Pearson, 76, are also involved and have previously knitted teddy bears for children in Ukraine.
Our campaign comes after Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said Russian attacks on power plants have left Ukraine facing a humanitarian crisis.
We’ve teamed up with three charities — Operation Orphan, Ukraine Appeal and Own Woman — to send blankets.

Readers are asked to knit a 6ft by 4ft quilt in washable wool or acrylic yarn.
Operation Orphan managing director Brad Moore said: “We’ve never seen such a rapid response.
"We are now preparing shipments. The Sun on Sunday readers are truly amazing.”
