A GRADUATE spent nothing on rent for two months by looking after other peoples' swanky homes and cats.

Ruby Frances, 24, house-sat in five different properties when she first moved to London, doing chores and watering plants.

The job saved her an estimated £1,350-a-month that she would have had to pay to live in a one-bed property in the capital.

Ruby, who moved from Wellington, New Zealand, in July, said the houses she stayed in were massive, including one with four-storeys.

And she said it was like "squatting, girl-boss edition", adding: "I was just living our of a suitcase and going from house to house exploring London."

The first home she looked after in North London would have been £500 for the five-nights she was there.

The web development graduate said: "It was a proper big house and I got it for free. The cat slept with me every night. It was so cute."

She stayed in the next house for three weeks where everything she needed was provided.

Ruby wanted to move over straight after university but found the one-bed properties were too expensive for her.

She thought she would have to job-hunt first before she found a website to set-up a house-sitting profile.

Ruby, who is now renting a flat after getting a job, said: "I didn't realise this was possible until I saw a TikTok about it.

"I wouldn't have been be able to afford to live in London and look for a job if I wasn't house sitting.

"I have to make sure I am in the house enough to look after the cats and I can't really have anyone over.

"But it gives me so much freedom and I'm getting to know London by moving to different places.

"I can be out in London exploring during the day I just have to make sure I'm there overnight.

"Most places don't like you having guests over and it's meant I've had to turn offers down of holidays because I need to be at the house but it wouldn't be possible for me to live in London without doing this."
