Melania Trump’s refusal to betray her husband Donald Trump over allegations of sexual assault betrays women instead
She may be the potential First Lady, but the businessman's wife will have to work harder if she wants to unite an already fractious nation
SO Donald Trump is taking the path marked denial when it comes to the growing number of allegations of sexual assault against him.
I guess that’s no surprise.
What is a surprise, or should I say a disappointment, is that his wife Melania is choosing to collude with him and turn a blind eye to what is unacceptable behaviour from any man.
“I believe my husband,” she told Anderson Cooper, who interviewed her on CNN television.
During the final presidential debate last Wednesday, Trump declared the claims against him were such fabrications that, “I didn’t even apologise to my wife”.
Melania, meanwhile, said Trump’s comments about women, which were caught on tape, occurred after Billy Bush “egged on” the Republican candidate to say “dirty and bad stuff”.
Well, if that is true, Melania is urging people to elect a man whose personality is so flimsy that he is susceptible to being “egged on” to brag about violating women to impress his peers, which doesn’t exactly sound like presidential behaviour.
But also, egged on or not, the man was caught on mic describing a “seduction” technique consisting of sexual assault and violation.
Allegations which appear to corroborate Trump’s words on tape have been made by numerous women who claim they found themselves on the receiving end of advances that were exactly as he described.
But Melania’s response is to say the allegations have been orchestrated by the “left-wing media” and the Clinton campaign.
I guess that in the face of allegations as disturbing as these, denial is the only way she can stay living with the man. After all, what woman in her right mind would want to live with a sexual predator?
Instead, she attributed her husband’s lewd comments to “boys’ talk”.
“Sometimes I say I have two boys at home. I have my young son and I have my husband,” she said, at which point she was reminded by the CNN reporter that her husband was 59 at the time he made the comments about grabbing women’s genitals to Billy Bush in 2005.
To clarify — she is trying to convince people that her husband has the makings of a president by openly referring to him as a child.
Convinced, anyone?
No, me neither.
This whole “locker room talk” explanation is such a red herring, and such a euphemism, another way of encouraging people to turn a blind eye to the tape.
You could go into any locker room you like with my husband and get him talking about anything, and I can guarantee that words like those spoken by Trump would never come out of his mouth — or even enter his mind.
The very idea that women are to be treated or spoken about in such a way is anathema to any right-thinking man — not to mention one who is the father of a daughter.
Personally, I would not take Trump free in a lucky dip. I certainly wouldn’t stay married to him after this.
Melania on the other hand, is choosing to preserve her universe. When she was asked if she felt her husband was describing sexual assault when he was caught on tape talking about women, she said he wasn’t.
In fact, she likened it to women who behave inappropriately towards her husband by giving him their phone number, which, apparently, happens a lot. I find this very hard to believe.
I would love to wear Donald Trump’s rose-tinted glasses for the day. Clearly he looks in the mirror and sees some kind of Adonis, the type of man that no woman could resist.
He doesn’t see grabbing a woman by her genitals as sexual assault because, in his universe, he thinks every woman wants something from him.
Perhaps he believes he hasn’t done anything wrong because all these women are gagging for it and therefore, in his mind, he has permission to do what he wants. I guess he thinks he’s irresistible — comb-over and all.
His poor wife. She appears brainwashed and unable to think for herself.
And clearly Donald Trump is the kind of person who is totally dominant. He wants it his way and only his way.
I imagine that if you are married to Donald Trump you have to think how he thinks and do what he does. Perhaps a bit like Stockholm syndrome, where hostages feel empathy and love towards their captors.
She may have all the material possessions anyone could wish for but what Melania doesn’t realise is that the world looks at her and thinks not about how lucky she is but how unlucky she is.
Clearly she believes that if she were to turn round and denounce her husband’s “locker room” comments as something far more serious, it would be the ultimate betrayal. But by not doing so, she is not only betraying herself but, I’m very sorry to say, all women.
-THE truth about Perrie Edwards and Zayn Malik is out at last.
In Little Mix’s new book, Perrie confirms that Zayn, her former fiancé, did end their engagement – by text!
She called it the “worst time” of her life, but what kind of man breaks off an engagement by text? Not a mature one.
And, more importantly, she is now happy with Our Girl star Luke Pasqualino, both above.
It looks to me as if Perrie has upgraded.
-I NEARLY fell off my chair reading that almost half of modern-day men are shaving their legs with a trimmer or razor, according to a new study.
I’m all for a bit of grooming but, frankly, if my husband did this it would be grounds for divorce. I couldn’t bear being with a man who takes longer than me to get ready (not to mention leaves his shaved hair around the rim of the bath tub).
Yuk! What’s wrong with men being . . . well, men?
Keeping it Rhea-l
ARE Mark Wahlberg and his wife Rhea Durham the world’s most perfect couple?
Whenever I see pictures of them they are always kissing or holding hands – and it’s clearly real affection, rather than faked for the cameras.
And as for his wife’s body after four kids (compared to mine after two) . . . just wow.
Pair not likely to make up
I OFTEN write about the unfair pressure we women are under to look “good” – but one story this week really takes the biscuit.
Apparently, a man in Dubai dumped his wife just days after their wedding after seeing her without make-up.
His reason? She had “deceived him with cosmetics” and fake eyelashes.
Everything was fine and he was clearly happy enough with his bride to marry her. But it all went horribly wrong when the pair went swimming in the sea at Dubai’s Al Mamzar beach.
When the 28-year-old woman’s make-up was washed away, her 34-year-old husband was so shocked at how different she looked he couldn’t even recognise her.
So much so that he changed his mind about being married.
Isn’t the whole point of cosmetics to make you look different – and better?
On the one hand you might say, “Poor her”. But my view is that she’s had a very near miss. Because, goodness knows, no matter how gorgeous you are in the first year of marriage, most people are barely recognisable
after 20.
So if this hadn’t happened now, it would have happened later, since this marriage was based on looks, not love.
It’s just a pity this woman didn’t get the chance to see his personality before marrying him.
Are you having a carafe?

I SAW that photo of Liz Hurley looking smoking in a red bikini and all I could think was, “Is she really 51?” She looks amazing.
She needs a DNA test – so whatever it is she has, she can bottle it to share with other women.
