The "bubbly" schoolgirl sadly died at the scene in Braunstone, Leicester, shortly after 11am when the vehicle left the road.

The second 14-year-old girl suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Tehleigher's heartbroken family have now paid tribute to her as police charged a motorist with causing death by dangerous driving.

Aaron Carter, 38, did not enter a plea during a hearing at Leicester Magistrates' Court and has been remanded in custody.

Tehleigher's adoptive father, Shane Patterson, said the youngster's death was "just not sinking in for me."

He told he was overwhelmed by grief following the fatal collision and is still grappling with the fact she won't ever come home.

Shane explained: "One minute I think I'm fine and the next minute I'm in pieces. I'm still trying to get my head around what happened and that she isn't here anymore.

"I'm devastated, we're comforted by the people around us but I just can't comprehend what's happened right now.

"Zoe, her mum, has taken it really hard and I'm just trying my best to be practical, keeping myself busy by sorting the funeral and keeping the family together, but it's hard."

He explained that he had raised Tehleigher since she was one-years-old before adopting her and watching her flourish into a young woman.

The grief-stricken dad said: "She was outgoing and bubbly, she couldn't do enough for others and always put others first ahead of herself.

"She was so well-liked and had so many friends who have gotten in touch and shared their love for her with us."
