Christmas sex robot festival to be held at top London university
Top academics from around the globe will come together at Goldsmiths to discuss the future of artificial sex
Goldsmiths University in London is set to hold an international conference on sex robots later this year.
The field's top academics in robo-sex will come together at the south London university to discuss what the future of human-robot-relations hold.
The event titled 'The International Congress on Love and Sex with Robots' will be held from the 19-20th December.
Malaysia previously banned the event branding it as "illegal", however the event has now become a global sensation.
With people travelling from all over the world to come together to take part in sessions on topics such as humanoid sex-bots, teledildonics (virtual sex toys to you and I), intelligent electronic sex hardware and robotic emotions.
Sex robots have come under attack recently with people calling to ban them, however Goldsmith's computing lecturer Dr Kate Devlin believes we could have a romantic future together with the bonkbots.
“Our research aims to carve a new narrative, moving away from sex robots purely defined as machines used as sex objects, as substitutes for human partners, made by men, for men," The Mirror reported Dr Devlin as saying.
“A machine is a blank slate – it is what we make of it. Why should a sex robot be binary? What about the potential for therapy? It’s time for new approaches to artificial sexuality.
“Cutting edge research in technology and ethics is vital if we want to reframe ideas about the human-tech relationship.”
While many will dismiss the idea of people having sex with robots as anything other than a dirty fantasy, Dr Devlin is adamant we shouldn't turn down the idea.
“I think robots could become our lovers in the future,” Dr Devlin said. “Does love have to be reciprocated in order to be valid?”
