Murder probe launched after woman, 59, killed in ‘serious assault’ inside home, as cops arrest man, 64
A MURDER probe was launched last night after a woman was killed in a “serious assault” at home, cops said.
The victim, 59, was found injured in Shoreham, West Sussex, shortly after 12.30pm but she died at the scene.
Cops swooped on the address on a quiet residential street after reports of an attack on a woman.
Officers arrested a 64-year-old man, who was known to the victim, on suspicion of murder.
A cordon remains at the scene today as detectives probe the horrific attack.
Sussex Police have appealed for further information.
A spokesman said: “At 12.37pm on Monday officers responded to a report that a 59-year-old woman had been seriously assaulted inside a property in Northbourne Close.
“Despite the best efforts of paramedics, she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers at this time.
“A 64-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into police custody. This is an isolated incident involving people known to each other, and there is not believed to be any threat to the wider community.
“Residents can expect to see a continued and visible police presence in the area while the investigation is ongoing.
