First girl migrant from Calais Jungle camp arrives in UK amid furore over adult-looking ‘child’ refugees
THE first girl among the wave of more than 50 so-called child migrants was seen arriving here yesterday.
She was pictured with green-varnished fingernails pointing from her fur-rimmed pink coat, her face hidden beneath a blanket.
Since Monday, 53 have been let in but some have looked suspiciously old. Many covered up as they arrived in London yesterday.
And reports last night claimed up to 50 more might arrive on coaches from Calais today.
All travel to the immigration centre in Croydon where officials process and interview them.
A total of 180 unaccompanied kids in the Calais Jungle camp are believed to have family ties in the UK, meaning they can move here under EU asylum law.
The controversy over the 'child' refugee arrivals - one of whom has been said to look over 30 - reached fresh heights yesterday.
Left-wingers and a prominent charity tweeted that one of the oldest-looking migrants was actually a 38-year-old interpreter employed by the Home Office.
But they were left red-faced when Home Secretary Amber Rudd intervened to confirm The Sun was correct to report the man was in fact a 'child' refugee.
The furore over refugees' ages has sparked fears unaccompanied younger children will be left in the dangerous Calais jungle camp.
