Prison officer, 46, ‘collected the sperm’ of an inmate she was ‘having an affair with’ and claimed ‘he wanted a child’

A PRISON officer collected the sperm of an inmate she was having a relationship with, a court heard.

Gran Alison Sharples, 46, was “besotted” with Marvin Berkeley, 31, and allegedly told cops he said: “I’d love to have a baby with you.”

She was caught with a syringe containing traces of his semen passed under his cell door, jurors were told.

It was found in a routine search of her bag on her way into Garth jail, Lancashire.

She claimed she used the syringe to give medicine to her granddaughter but tests matched it with his DNA.

A love letter from the lag, inside for a serious offence, was found in a search of her home, the court was told.

Sharples was said to have told a pal about the affair.

Prosecutor Camille Morland told Preston crown court the relationship was “sexually intimate, if not necessarily physically so”.
