Cruel parents failed to get medical help for their seven-week-old son who died from cardiac arrest

CRUEL parents failed to get medical held for their baby boy before he died from a cardiac arrest.

Kayleigh Clarke, 32, and Michael Higginson, 52, were told their lack of action likely caused Ronnie unnecessary suffering.

The alarm was only raised when paramedics discovered the seven-week-old in cardiac arrest at his home in Stoke-on-Trent in November.

He then died in hospital just 30 minutes later.

It had been four days since his parents were first advised to seek medical help for him.

He had been unwell, sniffling, struggling to breathe and had gone off his food.

Clarke and Higginson were convicted of child cruelty this afternoon at Stoke-on-Trent crown court. They will be sentenced later this year.

The court accepted that they did not cause Ronnie's death but their failure to take any immediate action likely caused him unnecessary suffering or injury to his health.

Staffordshire Police Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Hannah said: "This was a truly tragic case in which a seven-week-old baby boy died in the care of two people who should have been there to protect him.

"Our investigation found that medical attention did not appear to have been sought for Ronnie when he was unwell.

"Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by Ronnie’s death.”

In a separate case, a mum searched "I want to give up my child" online weeks before her baby died in filthy conditions.

Fartum Jamal's 11-month-old child Nafahat died amid "walls covered in faeces" after weeks of neglect in Brent, North West London, a court heard in March.

The 25-year-old made a series of web searches, including "I can't cope with my child anymore" and "I want to give up my child" in early 2019.

Visitors in the weeks leading up to the baby's death said her cot was broken and the flat was overrun with takeaway boxes, dirty plates and nappies.

She was found guilty of causing Nafahat's death by neglect and child cruelty.
