The F1 star says he's long been a fan of the computer game series

Lewis Hamilton stars in the latest instalment of Call of Duty

Lewis Hamilton is one of the big names set to star in the upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare game.

The F1 champ will play the role of an engineer on one of the game's spaceships.

According to the game's script, the ship which is named Retribution, is one of Earth's few remaining warships capable of defending them during the ongoing galactic battle.

Infinite Warfare is the latest instalment in Activision's well establish shooter series, and takes players across a galaxy where humanity has colonised the Solar System and has begun running riot.

The story line follows Captain Nick Reyes and his squad who try to settle rogue groups running large areas of space.

While Hamilton will not be playing as major role in the game, you will be able to take part in side-missions where you will have more interaction with him.

"The experience of being put into the game – from the facial scanning process to working with the team on the performance capture stage and just being able to meet the developers at the studio to get a glimpse at all the hard work that goes into the game – this has been an incredible experience," Hamilton said.

It has also been rumoured UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor will feature in the game as one of Harrington's bodyguards.

These stars are the latest in a long line of celebrities appearing in the Call of Duty series, with Kevin Spacey famously playing the role of a ruthless private military leader in 2014's Advanced Warfare.
