GRANT Shapps has been named Home Secretary tonight after the PM sacked Suella Braverman.

It comes just two days after the former Transport Secretary said Liz Truss is unlikely to last in the post.

Ms Braverman was removed from the role after admitting that she had sent a secret document to an unvetted MP via email.

The Sun understands the friend that Ms Braverman was emailing Home Office material too was Sir John Hayes, an ex security minister and long term backer.

Sir John has not responded to requests for comment.

In her resignation letter, she seemed to lash out at the government, saying she had "concerns" over its "direction".

The now former cabinet minister said: "Not only have we broken key pledges that were promised to our voters, but I have had serious concerns about this government's commitment to honouring manifesto commitments, such as reducing overall migration numbers and stopping illegal migration, particularly the dangerous small boats crossings."

Mr Shapps was Transport Secretary under Boris Johnson and has also served as Chairman of the Conservative Party.

He has been an outspoken critic of the Truss government, and led the internal backlash to the mini-budget, alongside Michael Gove.

As recently as Monday he said that the PM was unlikely to survive in her role.

The chaotic shake-up comes less than a week after former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng resigned over the fallout of the mini-budget.

New Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has since scrapped almost all of the measures announced by his predecessor.

PM Truss is now left with well-known critics in two of the top three cabinet positions.

Both Chancellor Hunt and new Home Secretary Shapps supported Rishi Sunak in the leadership contest.

Only Foreign Secretary James Cleverly is known as a Truss supporter.
