RED LIGHT FRIGHT

We’re scared to leave home after sex workers took over our neighbourhood and romp against our homes…I’m worried for kids

RESIDENTS in a neighbourhood overrun by prostitutes that have sex up against homes say they are too scared to leave the house.

And families in the area fear for their kids who get an eyeful of the romps every night in Nottingham.

The problems in the Hyson Green area have become so out of control that locals claim the council now turns a blind eye while visitors steer clear.

Resident Madar Zaman, 62, told The Sun Online: "We do not leave the house at night. We always hear shouting throughout the night.

"We are aware that this is part of the red-light district. It is known for that. We try to avoid the hotspots as much as we can."

Fatima Choundhury , 54, agreed, adding: "I do not go out and about at night - it is not safe.

";We have seen sex workers and people doing drugs in the area."

And student Maria, 21, say she even witnessed a prostitute having sex at the side of her rented accommodation.

Maria, who also revealed condoms litter the streets, added: “It’s a bit grotty here but it’s cheaper to rent accommodation than in the city."

When The Sun Online visited the street, a community cop was seen patrolling up and down but with head bowed and appearing oblivious to any goings on.

Women, some looking as young as 20, were out and about trying to sell their bodies.

Businessman and taxi driver Latif Sajad, 75, said he was propositioned by a sex worker who tried to hop into his car saying she was doing “business".

He said the girls are plying their trade in Hyson Green, targeting Radford Road, spilling over from the renowned neighbouring red light district in Forest Road West in Forest Fields.

Meanwhile optician owner Azad Khan says he had also been “propositioned by prostitutes” in Radford Road as he left his shop.

The 70-year-old told The Sun Online: "The ladies are selling sex, they do it because they need that shot of drugs. It is just one of those things unfortunately."

Azad, who has run Blow Opticians for 30 years, agreed the area has always been "rife" with problems- including problem drinkers and crime - with many residents fearful of going out.

"I would worry for a parent with a young child walking through the park", he said as he called for a heavier police presence in an area where "no gooders" gather.

And the owner of newsagents Premier shop added: “It’s a vicious cycle - the criminals get caught, go to prison, come out and do it all again."

But the owner of popular Yumi ice cream said the area was being unfairly tainted and was not as bad people made out

He said: “I’ve been here for 13 years and I have never seen any prostitution. But some people will not come into Hyson Green because they’ve heard negative comments."

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said: “Prostitution has decreased over the last 10 years in the area since the task force was implemented.

"The taskforce work with outreach projects to safeguard sex workers but to provide enforcement around the anti-social behaviour associated with it.

“We take the issues of residents very seriously and the taskforce continues to work alongside the neighbourhood policing team to work in the area to solve local issues."
