Who is Colin Gunn?

Colin Gunn is considered one of the most notorious crime bosses in Nottingham.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2006, with a minimum of 35 years, after conspiring to murder John and Joan Stirland.

It was aimed as revenge for the death of his old nephew, Jamie Gunn, who died aged 19 on August 2, 2004.

Jamie's death cause is known as pneumonia, however, it is believed that he has been on an over amount of alcohol and drugs ever since he witnessed the shooting and killing of his best friend, Marvyn Bradshaw in August 2003.

Following his nephew's death, Gunn started his downfall to get revenge.

It was all documented on episode five of Murdertown titled Mablethorpe, which narrates the events that led to Gunn spending his life in jail.

What crime did Colin Gunn commit?

Jamie Gunn's best friend was shot by Joan Stirland's son, Michael O'Brien, who was jailed for life.

Being targets of a revenge attack, the Stirlands moved into police protection after they had the front windows of their Carlton home shout out in a drive-by shooting.

They moved to North Yorkshire, but upon their return to Nottingham, they had left police protection.

Aged 53 and 55, they tried to live safely in a bungalow in Trusthorpe, but Gunn's criminal circle managed to trace them.

On Sunday, August 8, 2004, Mrs Stirland contacted the police about seeing someone outside their bungalow the evening before.

It reached the Lincolnshire police via fax that afternoon, however, they were unaware of the threat level the couple face and only visited their property in the evening.

At 9.30pm, Joan and John Stirland were found dead, after facing the kill by Gunn's hitmen.

Colin Gunn faced charges for the conspiracy of their murder in 2006.
