Police are calling for witnesses after Jamel was stabbed repeatedly in the chest and legs in Clapham

A FAMILY has pleaded for answers after a young boy was stabbed repeatedly in the chest and left fighting for his life in a seemingly unprovoked attack.

Jamel Boyce, 17, was stabbed in the chest and legs after being "viciously attacked" in Clapham, South London, last Friday.

Police are now desperately searching for the three men they believe are responsible for the attack, with parents Pansy and Patrick Boyce pleading for information.

Jamel's 47-year-old mother said: "Jamel is a shy, loving boy who is always smiling.

"Jamel is my only child and I'm asking if anyone knows anything no matter how small to please contact the police."

His father, Patrick said: "Jamel is a very loving son, who is kind and considerate always putting others before himself.

"This should never have happened to Jamel and I'm asking if anyone has any information concerning who has done this to please contact the police."

Detectives are now hoping that shoppers leaving a nearby Sainsbury's supermarket may hold vital clues.

Jamel, who is studying business at nearby St Francis Xavier College, was found covered in blood on Friday night and rushed to hospital where he remains in a "critical condition".

Police said they are now looking into what could have motivated the attack, as well as what circumstances led up to the stabbing, saying it was believed a group of seven to ten youths had been in the area at the time of the attack.

Detective Sergeant Paul Graves, from Lambeth CID, said: "I'm appealing to anyone who recognises the three individuals in the CCTV images to get in contact with us.

"This appears to have been an unprovoked attack on a young student who was simply going about his business that day.

"Jamel currently remains in a critical condition and this has caused much distress to his parents and loved ones.

"We believe that a number of those involved in the incident are around the same age as Jamel and I am directly appealing to their family and friends.

"If you have the slightest indication that someone you know may have been involved in this incident I would encourage you to get them to hand themselves into the police.

"We understand that some might have concerns about speaking to the police, but it is important that those with vital information do come forward and help us with our inquiry."

Two 20-year-old men and a 17-year-old arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the investigation have been bailed until January, pending further inquiries.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Lambeth CID or, to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
