Baby boy found dead at Dublin home was poisoned by his mum before she took own life, cops believe

THE seven-month-old boy found dead with his mother at a house over the weekend is believed to have been poisoned.

Detectives now suspect ­that Vincent Donohoe was given a substance which caused his death.

Cops believe the ­baby was poisoned by mother Kate, 35, before she took her own life.

Gardai have confirmed they aren’t looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths and have classified the discovery of the bodies as a “family tragedy”.

One source told The Irish Sun: “The main line of inquiry is that the baby boy died from some type of poisoning.

“This is a very sad case for everyone concerned.

“Gardai will now try and establish the reasons behind someone poisoning a child.”

Officers believe the youngster was murdered in an upstairs bedroom of his home in Clonee, west Dublin, on Friday.

Gardai initially believed the baby had been smothered until a post-mortem was held.

Their bodies weren’t found until Saturday afternoon after a neighbour raised the alarm.

We yesterday told how a note was found beside the bodies of the mother and her son.

Meath Dog Shelter, where Kate volunteered, paid tribute to the mother and son.

They said: “We are deeply saddened to hear the news of the loss of Kate and her son.

“Kate volunteered her services to any dog that needed help anywhere in Ireland. She often groomed dogs for us that were badly in need and helped us to find homes for dogs too.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, her friends and those in the community affected by her passing.”

Tributes have also been paid to the tragic mother, with one person saying: “God love this mother and her baby. Rest in peace.”

'QUIRKY AND CARING'

Kate was remembered by pals as "loving and decent".

One friend said: "The dog grooming world and animal welfare/rescue world is today rocked to its core.

"The most quirky loving decent caring funny lady and her gorgeous boy Vincent left this world for hopefully a better place yesterday.

"We will miss her help, advice, voice messages, her giggles and the genuine love that oozed from every pore of her body.

"Please just say one little prayer that they are both happy & together for ever now.

"You were loved more than you will ever know Kate."
