Garda probe after seven-month-old baby boy found ‘smothered’ with woman who ‘overdosed’ in Dublin house

GARDAI have launched an investigation after a woman and baby boy were found dead in a house today.

It is believed the seven-month-old had been smothered and the woman, in her 40s, is understood to have taken an overdose.

Investigators are awaiting results the of post-mortems before deciding what course the probe should take but sources have told the Irish Sun that they aren’t looking for anyone else.

An insider said: “This is a very sensitive case. It’s devastating for the family involved.

“The post-mortems will tell a lot and will decide the course of the investigation but at this point gardai are not looking for anyone else.”

The grim find was made at a house in Clonee, on the Dublin-Meath border shortly after 3pm.

The bodies remained at the scene tonight pending the arrival of forensics experts who will carry out examinations this morning.

Gardai said last night: “Shortly after 3pm today, gardai and emergency services attended at a house in the Beechfield area of Dublin 15.

“A female adult, 40s, and a baby boy were discovered inside the house deceased.

“They were both pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. Their bodies remain at scene which is preserved for forensic and technical examination.

“The local coroner and office of the state pathologist have been notified.

“The outcomes of a post-mortem examinations will determine the course of investigations into both deaths.

“A family liaison officer has been appointed to liaise with the family.”

It is believed that the father of the child is a local man.
