Brit tourist drowns on Crete as lifeless body found washed up on beach in THIRD tragic death at Chania resort in days

A BRITISH tourist drowned while on holiday in Crete – the third tragic death at a popular resort in just a few days.

The woman’s lifeless body was found washed up on the beach of Almyrida in Chania.

The woman, 74, believed to be from Wales, was reportedly found unconscious on Wednesday afternoon.

Her body washed up at the shore due to strong waves.

According to local reports, rescuers attempted CPR for half an hour but the woman could not be revived.

It was the third death in Chania in just a few days.

There have been no lifeguards stationed on beaches since October 1 as their contractual period has ended for the season.

Another man was found dead o the same beach on Sunday while a 63-year-old tourist also drowned a few weeks ago.

It comes after another Brit tragically drowned in front of her boyfriend while scuba diving off the coast of Albania last month.

A diving instructor has been arrested after the 29-year-old died during the trip off Saranda, a resort on the southern coast, not far from the Greek island of Corfu.

Another British tourist died after slipping and falling almost 400ft off a cliff on the Balearic island of Formentera.
