What is Google Flights? Now search giant will help you get cheapest flights for next holiday
The tech giant is updating its flight comparison tool
Google's latest invention wants to help you save money on flights.
Whether you're jetting off on holiday or going away for work, one of the most frustrating things about going away is trying to find reasonably priced flights.
To help save you time (and hopefully a bit of cash), Google has dipped its toes into the world of flight comparison with its latest update to Google Flights.
Not only does the service help you find the cheapest flights possible, but once you enter where you want to fly to it will offer useful pointers such as when they expect prices to rise and if there's a cheaper route.
The tech giant are analysing historical flight data in an attempt to help predict future pricing trends, and in turn save consumers money.
However the service may be more helpful to those who are looking to fly difficult or long distance routes, as when we did a quick comparison between Google Flights and Skyscanner we found the latter to be more cost effective.
We tested both sites with the same trip - flying from Gatwick to Malaga on the 3rd November and returning back to London on the 10th.
While the majority of the flights offered by Skyscanner and Google were exactly the same, Skyscanner was able to find a deal from Thomson that didn't even appear on Google.
One thing Google is able to offer that is exceptionally helpful though is the ability to track flights.
Meaning if you're not yet ready to book you can choose to track changes in price.

The service also offers users the chance to seamlessly book hotel rooms on top of their flights, with Google Flights telling you which hotels currently have offers available on rooms, and which ones are most reduced.
All in all the service looks to be a good addition to the world of travel planning, but as with any of these services it may still be best to shop around rather than solely relying on it.
