DEVIL’S DEATH

How killer Chris Scarver beat Jeffrey Dahmer to death with metal bar until his skull collapsed in ‘revenge for victims’

EVIL serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer met a similarly brutal fate to his victims, which saw him violently murdered in prison by a fellow inmate.

Dahmer, who slaughtered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991, was sentenced to life in prison at Wisconsin's Columbia Correctional Institution in February 1992.

But the Milwaukee killer's time in prison would be short.

On November 28, 1994, Dahmer was bludgeoned to death by fellow prisoner Christopher Scarver, who had arrived at the jail at a similar time to the serial killer.

After guards left Scarver alone with Dahmer and another convicted murderer Jesse Anderson for some 20 minutes, he beat the pair with a 20-inch metal bar he had taken from the prison gym.

Dahmer's head had also been smashed repeatedly against the wall during the assault.

The serial killer died an hour after he was discovered from his injuries.

Scarver, serving a life sentence for a separate murder, later explained why he exacted such gruesome revenge.

After calmly returning to his prison cell, he told a guard: "God told me to do it. Jesse Anderson and Jeffrey Dahmer are dead."

Although adamant he hadn't planned the killings in advance, Scarver later told investigators he had hidden the 20-inch iron bar taken from the weight rooms in his clothing shortly before the attacks.

Scarver told the  in 2015 how Dahmer would taunt other inmates by shaping his food to look like different body parts and using ketchup as blood.

"He would put them in places where people would be," Scarver said at the time. "He crossed the line with some people - prisoners, prison staff.

"Some people who are in prison are repentant - but he was not one of them."

Scarver, who arrived at the jail at around the same time as Dahmer, said the twisted killer always had a personal escort of at least one guard after a number of "heated interactions" with other inmates.

But he never interacted with the mass murderer, until the day of the shock killing.

Scarver kept a newspaper article in his pocket detailing how Dahmer had killed, dismembered, and in some cases ate, 17 men and boys, many of them from ethnic minority and LGBT backgrounds.

On that fateful day in November 1984, Dahmer, then 34, was unshackled along with Scarver and Jesse Anderson to clean the bathrooms by correction officers.

Scarver, then 25, had just retrieved his mop and was filling a bucket with water when someone poked him in the back.

"I turned around, and [Dahmer] and Jesse were kind of laughing under their breath," he recalled. "I looked right into their eyes, and I couldn't tell which had done it."

Scarver then followed Damher towards a staff locker room and grabbed a metal bar from the weight room.

He confronted Dahmer with the news story in his pocket.

"I asked him if he did those things because I was fiercely disgusted," Scarver said. "He was shocked. Yes, he was."

When Dahmer tried to make his escape through a door, Scarver blocked off the exit.

He swung the metal bar twice into Dahmer's skull, crushing it.

Scarver then went to find Anderson - who was serving a life sentence for murdering his wife in 1992 - and delivered the same grisly fate as Dahmer.

He later claimed he believes prison guards deliberately left him alone with Dahmer because they knew he hated him and wanted them dead.

Scarver said that he had spotted the guards disappearing just before he carried out the killings.

After first pleading insanity to the murders, Scarver later changed his plea to "no contest" in exchange for a transfer to a federal penitentiary.

Scarver was already serving life for killing a former colleague during a robbery in 1990.

Now 53, he remains behind bars to this day.
