A Cabinet minister's sons have been arrested over an assault that left a 17-year-old with a fractured skull

The victim suffered a bleed on the brain and spent five nights in hospital.

He is said to have argued with one of the Tory MP’s lads, who are in their late teens and 20s, before being battered in Blackheath, South East London, at 11.30pm on a Saturday night.

A source said: “The lad was with his girlfriend at a bus stop on their way home from a party when the row broke out. It started off as a verbal dispute and then he was knocked unconscious and ended up covered in blood.

“People saw the state he was in and called an ambulance.”

The politician’s sons, released under investigation, are said to dispute the victim’s claims, arguing that he started a row, was drunk and fell to the ground.

They are understood to have stayed with him until an ambulance arrived on June 18.

Police arrested them after being called to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, where the teenager was being treated.

A source close to the victim’s family said: “He was in a terrible state and his mother was not in much doubt he had been beaten up.

";She was told by doctors his skull was fractured in three places and had a bleed on the brain. That is consistent with being attacked and hit several times rather than falling over.

“The teenager says he remembers the argument and the start of the attack but then cannot remember anything until he woke up in hospital.

“It is the sort of situation every parent dreads. But the lad has made a good physical recovery, thankfully.”

The Met Police is understood to be examining CCTV and phone records.
