Heartstopping moment heroes rescue a screaming woman trapped in her sinking car after accidentally driving into pond
THIS is the dramatic moment a woman is rescued from her sinking car after she accidentally drove into a pond.
A passerby managed to swim out to the SUV and opened its rear door just seconds before it plummeted to the bottom of Spy Pond in Arlington, Massachusetts.
The 68-year-old driver can be seen struggling to open her front door and escape from her Ford Edge car.
“She was very, very scared and had taken in water,” Dan Frazier, who swam out to rescue the woman, told .
“She knew she was dying. I mean, she just figured this was it.”
The frantic rescue was captured on video filmed from the shore.
It shows the car just moments after it was driven into the lake as onlookers can be heard screaming: "You gotta get out".
At that point Mr Frazier and Kenneth Chapman, another man who had been out walking by the pond, jump into the water to begin their rescue.
One of them makes it to the car and opens its back door, giving the woman a route to escape.
However, it cause water to rush into the vehicle, meaning just moments later it became completely submerged as terrified onlookers scream in fear.
The man near the car can be heard shouting: "I lost her".
But miraculously, the woman then appears at the moment Mr Frazier arrives with a cushion for her to use as a flotation aid.
He can be heard shouting "don't grab me" over fears she could bring both of them down.
"She was saying 'Thank you Jesus'", Mr Chapman, who was visiting from Australia, said.
The woman was treated for mild hypothermia but was not seriously hurt.
Police said she was trying to park her car when she accidentally mounted a kerb and slid into the lake.
