Facebook removes ‘naughty section’ of Marketplace app after sex and drug posts scandal
Social network ditches potentially controversial 'services' category from its buy and sell app
Facebook has removed a potentially controversial section of its Marketplace app amid accusations that it was being used to sell drugs and sexual services.
The social network appears to have ditched the "services" section of its buy and sell app, which is the section where some of the rudest adverts were likely to appear.
Zuckerberg's firm recently apologised after Marketplace was used to sell drugs, guns, sex and even a baby hedgehog.
Now it has cut down on the possibility for naughtiness by removing the "services" section, which is the category with the most potential for naughtiness.
It is understood the latest version of the Facebook mobile app has removed this category from Marketplace.
On Craiglist, a number of erotic activities can be booked using the services section.
We found "two students girls from Leeds" who said they were "staying in a hotel and need some cash".
They wrote: "If there's anything we can do for you let us know."
Other advertisers used the services page to offer naked massages and other sexually charged activities.
We asked Facebook for comment but it has not replied.
The social network previously said Marketplace is “a convenient destination to discover, buy and sell items with people in your community”.
