Queen’s funeral date confirmed when Her Majesty will be laid to rest in solemn state ceremony on Bank Holiday Monday
THE Queen will be laid to rest in a sombre state funeral on a Bank Holiday Monday.
Her Majesty, 96, tragically passed away on Thursday at her Scottish estate Balmoral.
Buckingham Palace has now released the details for the Queen’s state funeral.
She will be laid to rest on Monday, September 19, at 11am at Westminster Abbey.
King Charles III today approved for the date to be a Bank Holiday as the UK remains in a state of national mourning.
It means the public will get the chance to line the streets on London and pay their respects to the longest serving monarch in history.

The plans are for the Queen’s coffin to process on a gun carriage to the abbey, pulled by naval ratings – sailors – using ropes rather than horses.
Senior members of the family are expected to follow behind – just like they did for the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales and the Duke of Edinburgh.
The military will line the streets and also join the procession.
Heads of state, prime ministers and presidents, European royals and key figures from public life will be invited to gather in the abbey, which can hold a congregation of 2,000.
The service will be televised, and a national two minutes’ silence is expected to be held.
The same day as the funeral, the Queen’s coffin will be taken to St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle for a televised committal service.
Later in the evening, there will be a private interment service with senior members of the royal family.
The Queen’s final resting place will be the King George VI memorial chapel, an annex to the main chapel – where her mother and father were buried, along with the ashes of her sister, Princess Margaret.
Philip’s coffin will move from the Royal Vault to the memorial chapel to join the Queen’s.
Her Majesty’s oak coffin currently lies in the ballroom at Balmoral with a wreath of flowers on top.
Tomorrow, the monarch’s body will be moved and taken to the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
The procession will move slowly to Edinburgh via Aberdeen so the public can watch on.
Once in Edinburgh, the Queen will be received with a royal salute by a guard of honour.
Her Majesty will remain there until the afternoon of September 12, when she is moved to St Giles Cathedral.
King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel to Edinburgh to join the procession from Holyrood to the cathedral, where a service will follow at 3pm.
She will remain in the cathedral for 24 hours for mourners to pay their final respects.
The King and other members of the Royal Family will also hold a Vigil of the Princes for Her Majesty on the evening of September 12.
At 5pm the next day, the Queen will be taken to RAF Northolt from Edinburgh at 6pm, accompanied by Princess Anne.
On arrival, RAF pallbearers will carry the coffin to a waiting state hearse to be taken to Buckingham Palace.
Her Majesty will then lie in the ballroom where royals will pay their respects.
She will remain at rest at there until her state funeral.
