Post mortems concluded on bodies of baby boy and young girl who died after horror car fire in Westmeath
POST mortems have been concluded on the bodies of a baby boy and a young girl who died following a horror car fire yesterday.
Gardai are "investigating all of the circumstances" surrounding the tragic deaths in Co Westmeath.
An infant boy was taken from the scene of the car fire and transported by ambulance to Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar.
He was later pronounced dead.
State Pathologist Dr. Sally Ann Collis has carried out Post Mortems on the bodies of the two children and the results will not be released for technical reasons.
Gardai are continuing to appeal to any person with information in relation to the fatal crash.
A garda spokesperson said this evening: "Gardai at Mullingar continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the deaths of a 2 year old infant boy and a 5 year old girl following a fatal car fire in County Westmeath on Friday, 9th September, 2022.
He said: "It seems to be a tragic incident.
"Your heart would go out to any family to lose children in that sort of circumstance.
"I don't know much detail to be honest, but no matter what happened or how it happened, it's a terrible tragedy for a quiet area like Multyfarnham."
