A TOP rugby star's mother was killed in a freak accident when she fell down new carpet laid on her stairs.
Retired teacher June Jones - the mother of British Lions and Wales prop Adam Jones - tumbled down "slippery" new carpet laid just a month ago at her home.
An inquest heard June, 65, was found by her husband dead at the foot of the 12 stairs.
Husband Alwyn, 67, said: "The carpet was fairly new. It was only down a month or so and was fairly slippery."
Harlequins player Jones, capped 95 times for Wales, was at the inquest to support his father over the tragedy.
His father told how he and his wife had "travelled the world" watching their son play rugby.
The couple had spent the evening watching television together at their home in Abercraf, near Swansea.
He added Mrs Jones was known to "get up sometimes for a chocolate at night."

The hearing was told she wasn't in bed when he awoke and after walking to the landing he found his wife's body at the bottom of a set of 12 stairs.
He said: "I looked down the stairs and she was lying face down on the stairs and her leg was trapped by the bannister.
"I ran and called for her and looked for a pulse. I rang for an ambulance."
He tried to perform CPR on his wife as he waited for paramedics to arrive, but they pronounced her dead at the scene.
PC Sarah Morgan said: "There was blood on the stairs. It was as if she had been coming down the steps."
Pathologist Dr Mauritzo Brotto said Mrs Jones had suffered a head injury.
Coroner Andrew Barkley recorded a conclusion of accidental death at the inquest in Aberdare, South Wales, but said the cause of the fall would remain "conjecture".
Jones was in the middle of pre-season training in San Francisco when he learned of his mother's death on August 4.
He only returned to playing early last month after admitting the death had left him "cut to pieces."
