Jim Carrey’s lawyers ‘hire private detectives to dig up dirt on ex-girlfriend’s family’ after they claimed he drove her to suicide by giving her STDs

JIM Carrey has hired private investigators to dig up dirt on the family of his late ex-girlfriend Catriona White, it is claimed.
The Mask actor has been hit with a wrongful death lawsuit by the make-up artist's mum - who branded the star "pure evil".
The comedian was left devastated in September last year when his former flame took her own life at home in Los Angeles.
But in recent weeks, more and more information has come to light about their relationship in the weeks and days leading up to her death, with claims the star had given his partner three STDs during their time together.
Yesterday lawyers acting on behalf of mother Brigid Sweetman said Carrey's legal team had hired former LAPD detectives and sent them to speak to a 'number' of her friends.
They allegedly left questions "designed to get them to speak badly about the grieving family.".
"How dare Carrey and his Hollywood lawyers try and malign the family and intimidate them," lawyer Michael Avenatti told .
"Sending private investigators out to dig up dirt on a grieving mother is disgusting. These people have no bounds."
Neither Carrey's publicist, lawyer or the investigators were available for comment. His agent's office declined to comment when contacted by The Sun Online.
Cathriona's estranged husband Mark Burton filed a lawsuit against Jim last month, claiming the sexually transmitted diseases contributed to Cathriona's decision to end her life. Now her mother has followed suit.
Brigid claims the 'abuse' her daughter suffered at the hands of the 54-year-old led to her suicide, and seeks damages as well as a jury trial.
In a statement she said: "Jim Carrey should be ashamed of what he did to my daughter.
"And he should be ashamed for how he has used his Hollywood attorneys to badmouth Cat’s husband Mark with the hope that nobody will hold him responsible for what he did.
"As a family, we want the world to know the truth about who Jim Carrey really is – a man that will give your daughter three STDs, lie about it, call her terrible names and demean her, use his high priced lawyers to try and shut her and her family up, and then give her illegal drugs.
"Every mother and father that has a daughter should read Cat’s handwritten letter to Jim and decide for themselves what kind of guy he really is."
Brigid also called the actor “heartless”, “outlandish”, “exploitative” “despicable”, “abhorrent”, “outrageous”, “opportunistic” and “pure evil”.
Jim has strenuously denied he gave his ex-girlfriend STD's, stating the accusations were "despicable", adding in a statement: "I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved."

However texts soon emerged revealing conversations between the on-off couple, with Cathriona telling Jim she feared he had given her an STD, before declaring her love for the star.
But in Brigid's court papers, she dismisses Jim's denial, claiming the actor tested positive in a test taken in January 2013, but gave a false name at the time - Jose Lopez.
The legal documents added: "At the time of her death, White had been engaged in an on again, off again sexual relationship with Carrey.
"This relationship was punctuated by White learning in early 2013 from a doctor that Carrey had given White three sexually transmitted diseases - Herpes Type 1, Herpes Type 2 and Chlamydia.
"To make matters worse, after Ms. White confronted Carrey about his egregious conduct, he manipulated her, shamed her, exploited her, threatened her and used his handlers and attorneys to silence her.
"This was "pure evil," "heartless," "despicable," "abhorrent," and "outrageous.""
Cathriona's mother adds her daughter became so "frightened" by Jim and his handlers she eventually agreed to sign papers silencing her from speaking about the sexually transmitted diseases.
Brigid added in her documents: "However, Ms. White continued to struggle emotionally with what Carrey had done and how he manipulated and pressured her, even in the months and days leading to her death,' claims Sweetman in her filing.
"This ultimately was a significant cause of Ms. White ending her life."
Brigid is being represented by the same lawyer as Cathriona's estranged husband, and almost all of her claims are the same as her former son-in-laws from his own wrongful death lawsuit against the actor.
However the actor's lawyer, Marty Singer, has claimed Cathriona was estranged from her mother for years before her death, adding the lawsuit is heading down the "same dark path" as Mark Burton's.
