MPs to vote on stripping Sir Philip Green’s knighthood over ‘unacceptable’ BHS collapse
Motion to strip tycoon of his knighthood comes from Tory MP Richard Fuller and will be discussed in Parliament Thursday
MPs are to vote next week on whether to strip Topshop tycoon Sir Philip Green of his knighthood.
The House of Commons will discuss on Thursday the collapse of high street giant BHS after Sir Philip sold it to a serial bankrupt for £1.
An amendment — by Tory MP Richard Fuller and independent MP Michelle Thomson — has been added to the debate calling for Sir Philip’s honour to be cancelled.
It is believed to be the first time MPs have debated a motion on cancelling an honour.
Sir Philip was branded “the unacceptable face of capitalism" when he faced MPs this summer.
They also branded him "little better than a corporate crook".
MPs asked him to plug the £700million black hole in BHS’s pension fund, a major reason for its collapse in June with the loss of 11,000 jobs.

Mr Field said at the time: “He has to decide how much his knighthood is worth. I think the only slight possibility that he has of keeping it is if he pays in full for the pension deficit. That’s going to be an enormous sum.”
It's faintly ridiculous for him to continue to warrant an award for services to retailing

The motion to strip Sir Philip of his knighthood comes from Conservative MP Richard Fuller and independent MP Michelle Thomson.
It calls on the Honours Forfeiture Committee, which makes such decisions, “to cancel and annul” his knighthood.
Sir Philip was given the honour in 2006 “for services to retail”.
Mr Fuller said yesterday: “His actions at BHS were of such a nature as to make it faintly ridiculous for him to continue to warrant an award for services to retailing.
“I’m putting forward this amendment for the simple reason that he warrants losing his knighthood. This is about expressing a legitimate sentiment about the way someone has behaved.
"It’s not populist screaming, it’s not a deal being done behind closed doors.”
