The 42 Unilever brands you WON’T be able to buy from Tesco online because of price row

TESCO has reportedly pulled 42 major brands from its online shelves including Marmite and Pot Noodle, amid a bitter row with a supplier claiming Brexit has forced them to hike their prices.

Unilever is said to have stopped deliveries to the supermarket giant after they refused to pay the cost increase of around 10%.

Tesco and Unilever are now at loggerheads over who should be bearing the costs of the weakening pound.

As a result brands such as Marmite, Pot Noodle, PG Tips, and Surf washing powder are no longer available from the chain's online service.

Hellman's, Flora, Domestos, and Surf have also been pulled.

The products are still available in stores but Tesco are said to be running low on several brands.

The threat of Marmite being in short supply has already lead to a wave of mocking memes cropping up on social media.

Unilever are on the of the UK's biggest suppliers of branded foods and household goods and the dispute could have serious consequences on both sides.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We are currently experiencing availability issues on a number of Unilever products. We hope to have this issue resolved soon.”

Other supermarkets such as Asda and Sainsbury's appear to be stocking Unilever brands as normal.

Sterling has dropped by 16% against the euro since the UK's Brexit vote.

Unilever has so far decline to comment on the row with Tesco.

The Dutch-British global company - which is worth $137.2 billion (£112.7 billion) – have been accused of trying to shift the cost of the weakening pound onto Tesco.

Unilever's chief executive warned in June that if the UK left the single market it would increase prices for consumers.

He told Channel 4 a vote to Leave would mean hikes in import duties on items such as dairy products, leading to price rises that would affect consumers.

Citing the example of Wall’s Magnum ice cream, Polman warned about trade restrictions, saying: “Undoubtedly if the UK were to Leave, the conditions will not be as good as if they stay in.”

Unilever has demanded steep price increases to offset the higher cost of imported goods, which are priced in euros and dollars.

But Tesco has suggested it will fight the rises – removing Unilever from its website and warning that some items could disappear from shelves if the row drags on.
