Those with a fear of the creatures need to start preparing to see them scuttle around in search of a partner.

They may have already been living in your home, but their presence is more noticeable at this time of year as they begin to wander.

Spiders prefer nestling in cosy homes to reproduce as the winter months arrive, instead of building webs in the garden.

But agitated arachnophobes can help banish the bugs with several natural deterrents and by decluttering their pads.

Declutter

Spider-repellent herbs

Keeping basil plants are a sure fire way of sending spiders fleeing, as they are typically disgusted by the herb.

Onions

The pungent smell of the vegetable is said to be off-putting for insects - and you can grow them in your garden too.

This will also help stop your crops from becoming overrun with creatures.

Using a relaxing scent

Lavender is a great fragrance to fight off the creatures, so it may be worth sticking a plant inside your property.

Scented candles can also help ward off any lurking insects.

Flowers
