Hollywood actress Shailene Woodley led way in handcuffs by cops blaming fame for arrest at protest over pipeline
The star who was in North Dakota and claims in video posted to her 40,000 followers she was being targeted because of her celebrity
HOLLYWOOD actress Shailene Woodley has been arrested while taking part in a protest against a pipeline.
The “Divergent” star was among several protesters who were making a stand at the Dakota Access Pipeline in Sioux County, North Dakota, on Monday.
She was placed under arrest for trespass, an offence which is classed as a misdemeanour.
The Fault Between Our Stars actress posted a video on her Facebook and asked her followers: “Why am I being arrested and no one else is?
“It’s because I’m well-known, it’s because I have 40,000 people watching.”
Cecily Fong of the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services told the site on Monday afternoon: “some sort of bail will be posted and she’ll post bail and get out of jail.”
The actress was on the ground at the 'peaceful protest' against construction site for the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline project.
Members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe claim it will destroy some of its sacred grounds.
However the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit rejected their request to block the development on Sunday.
Woodley has been vocal in her support of their plight and has been protesting to stop the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline for a few months.
She has posted her efforts on social media.
The star is best known for her role as Tris in the Divergent series of movies.
In it her character discovers she and others are actually part of a huge experiment which is being run in a bid to save humanity.
Armed with a special abilities she, along with her partner Four, work to bring about an end to the controlled environment they have been placed in.
