EERIE footage has surfaced showing a UFO hovering over a West Yorkshire town for more than an HOUR.
A witness, who does not want to be named, spotted the strange lights above Holmfirth - where sitcom Last of the Summer Wine was filmed.
He used a binoculars to get a closer look at the object and claims it was a large triangular craft covered in red, green and white lights.
The mysterious craft reportedly appeared over the sleepy Yorkshire town shortly before 9pm and lurked for an hour before it finally flew off towards Manchester.
The footage was captured by UFO expert Gary Heseltine, who was tipped off by a stunned ex-cop and rushed out to record the UFO on his night vision camera.
The detective-turned-UFO-hunter recorded a bright glowing light in the sky as a plane, with flashing navigation lights, passes close by.
The witness said: "At approximately 8.50pm on Thursday 6 October, I was outside my home in Penistone when I saw a large grouping of lights over in the direction of Holmfirth. The sky was clear, cloudless and relatively light at this time.
"Using the red lights on top of the wind turbines that can be seen on the left on the horizon I perceived that the cluster of lights was much further in distance I would estimate at least over Crow Edge possibly Holmfirth."
He said the UFO tilted forward on its axis and he could clearly see it was triangular in shape with green neon light running down each side.
Rows of red lights, which blinked on and off randomly, also ran down the two longest sides, according to the stunned witness.
At around 9.20pm, they saw the craft shift to a new position before slowly drifting back to its original position and at 9.50pm, it was seen moving off towards Manchester.
Following the close encounter he drew a sketch of what he saw.
Gary, 56, who served in the force for 24 years, said: “I can confirm that following a telephone call from a retired police officer that I drove to a high vantage point over Holmfirth (on the A616 Sheffield Road) and saw for myself a large bright object at 9.37pm which was recorded briefly through a night vision camera.
"I did not see a triangular craft but I noted that the object was stationary, extremely bright and kept ‘flaring’ up in luminosity.
"I do not believe that it was a star or any astronomical object. At one point an aircraft can clearly be seen on the video, moving to the right of the object at what appears to be the same altitude.
"I believe that the object the retired officer saw from the Penistone area was the same one I saw over Holmfirth. The principal witness does not want to be named or go public but he is known to me personally so I can vouch for his credentials. I am appealing for any other witnesses who may have noticed the object to come forward and contact me."
Since 2002, Gary has collected and studied more than 500 police sightings dating back to 1901 involving around 1,000 officers.
Last month the Sun revealed how two off-duty police officers filmed a UFO hovering over the North East of England.
