Lottery winners who turned £4.6million win into £30million property empire split

A COUPLE who turned their £4.6million National Lottery bonanza into a £30million property empire are splitting up.

Barry and Jenny Chuwen won in 1997 and then boosted their fortune before the 2008 credit crunch hit them hard.

The couple also set up a charity for special needs kids.

Regulators are probing its finances.

Ex-hairdresser Barry, 52, said the investigation and business pressures had caused them stress.

He also said he had “developed a relationship” through work and had apologised to his wife, 54.

The pair, who have three children, are selling their Glasgow mansion for £1.75million through his estate agency.

A friend said: “Everyone thinks a lottery win guarantees happiness but, as many winners now know, it’s not always plain sailing.”
