Female brutally raped, beaten and robbed in horrifying assault near the Colosseum after asking for directions

The 49-year-old Australian woman was knocked out and left with a broken nose after two men pounced

A LOST Australian female tourist was allegedly brutally raped, beaten and robbed near the Colosseum in Rome.

Italian police were shocked by the savagery of the attack on Sunday.

The 49-year-old woman from Melbourne suffered concussion, a broken nose and such severe bruising.

She is expected to spend the next month in hospital recovering from the attack.

The woman’s daughter her mother was “not doing well”.

“She has bruises all over her face and a broken nose,” she added.

The victim, on a study tour in Rome, asked for directions from a man near a bar at the Termini railway station.

The suspect allegedly offered to show her the way, before another man came along and she was forced into a 'cabin' at the Colle Oppio park, near the Colosseum.

The woman told a local reporter from her hospital bed: "I'm feeling so bad.

“They beat me brutally, non stop. The face, the nose, the left eye. I’m in pieces.

“And then what they did to me after, I can’t even think about it.”

The woman recalled being punched in the face and had her purse stolen.

She was found unconscious, with her hands tied behind her back, by a passer-by.

Police yesterday charged a suspect, alleged to be homeless, in connection with the attack and returned the victim's belongings.

A 40 year old Romanian man has been charged with sexual assault, robbery and bodily harm.

It was the second serious assault in a fortnight on a foreign woman in the Italian capital.

A 49 year old Brazilian woman was kidnapped, raped and beaten by two men and a woman near the Tuscolana train station on September 25.
