Woman, 22, ‘drives wrong way down Interstate-90 and hits van leaving five children and two adults dead’

A WOMAN allegedly drove the wrong way down an interstate and hit a van which left five children and a woman dead.

Authorities have confirmed to The Sun that a total of seven people were killed in the horrific accident.

The van was driving westbound on the interstate when it stuck a car head-on.

Illinois State Police told The Sun that both vehicles "became fully engulfed."

A preliminary investigation revealed that 22-year-old Jennifer Fernandes was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when she allegedly struck the van that held seven occupants, reports. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thomas Dobosz, 32, was driving the van that was struck. He was then airlifted to hospital with critical injuries.

Lauren Dobosz, 31, as well as five children, were also killed in the crash, the outlet reports.

The children included two 13-year-old girls, a 7-year-old boy, a 6-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl, police told the outlet.

The accident happened at 2.11am on Sunday near Hampshire, Illinois.

The fatal crash also caused another collision when a semi-truck stopped to let a medical helicopter land and a second semi rear-ended it, officials told ABC7.

One person had minor injuries as a result of the second crash.
