Which cancer did Jared Kushner have?

In the memoir, Kushner revealed that he had a bout of thyroid cancer in 2019.

The disease is often diagnosed at a younger age, compared to other adult cancers, and affects hundreds of thousands of people worldwide every year.

The thyroid gland is found at the base of your neck at the front, just behind the hollow where your collarbones meet.

It is a butterfly-shaped gland that makes and releases hormones that regulate your heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and weight.

It is made up of two lobes connected by a bridge of tissue.

It is usually found when patients are undergoing ultrasounds, CT scans or MRIs for an unrelated reason.

What has Jared Kushner said on his cancer diagnosis?

In an excerpt, the former political aid recounted the moment he was pulled by White House physician Sean Conley who informed him of the devastating news.

During a flight on Air Force One - as then President Donald Trump flew to Texas -  Conley revealed his test results and recommended immediate surgery, according to the excerpt.

Kushner had the surgery in the days before Thanksgiving that year and kept his diagnosis secret from the majority of his colleagues.

“This was a personal problem and not for public consumption,” he wrote.

“With the exception of Ivanka, Avi, Cassidy and Mulvaney, I didn’t tell anyone at the White House — including the president,”

According to the excerpt, the relator said a substantial part of his thyroid was removed during the surgery, which came during tense negotiations with China about a trade deal.

At the time, he described how he used work to distract himself from his impeding surgery.

“When I did think about it, I reminded myself that it was in the hands of God and the doctors, and that whatever happened was out of my control,” he allegedly wrote in the excerpt.

“At moments, I caught myself wondering whether I would need extensive treatment.”

Kushner said he was lucky to have caught the disease "early," but was warned by doctors that the surgery could have long lasting effects on his voice.
