Under her so-called sunset deadline, all remaining Brussels regulations will be booted off the books in December 2023.

It trumps Rishi Sunak’s rival pledge to ditch or reform all hangover EU bureaucracy by the next election, which is scheduled for December 2024.

Ms Truss said: “I will unleash the full potential of Britain post-Brexit, and accelerate plans to get EU law off our statute books so we can boost growth.”

Mr Sunak has already pledged to "radically reform" the regulation but stopped short of vowing to junk it completely.
