Amazon is unlocking front doors and leaving parcels INSIDE customers’ homes
AMAZON is testing out a system which allows delivery drivers to unlock customers' front doors and drop off packages inside their homes.
The technology would make it impossible to miss a delivery, as it wouldn't matter whether someone was in or out when the postman calls.
The retail giant is currently working with a pair of firms that make smart locks and garage door openers which can opened using a password.
A similar trial is also taking place in Germany, where Amazon is working with the automobile manufacturer Daimler on a system which can open up car boots so packages can be left inside.
August, a company which make smart door locks, and Garagei, manufacturers of connected garage doors, is working with Amazon to test out the new delivery system in Seattle.
If in-home delivery becomes a standard option in the future, it could reduce post and packaging costs for companies, and even customers.
It's also a more environmentally-friendly option, as parcels wouldn't need the robust packaging usually required to protect them from adverse weather conditions.

In-home delivery would work by selecting an option during the purchasing process, which would in turn allow the courier one-time access to your home via an August-locked door or Garageio-controlled garage.
This would allow the courier to leave your package safely inside your home - but once they've closed the door, they wouldn't be able to enter again.
Amazon has not yet announced if the new service, which some customers may be uncomfortable with, will become widely available.

He wrote: a slew of issues with in-home deliveries, including the possibility of theft and damage. And of course, very few people have smart locks, so it doesn't make much sense to built a delivery option around them yet. It sounds like Amazon and these companies are just testing out the feasibility of in-home deliveries, rather than planning a widespread rollout soon.
