RHODES Airport has been evacuated amid claims passengers are suffering from stinging eyes and coughing caused by pepper spray.
Hundreds of people were evacuated from the building and made to wait outside the terminal.
One person claimed her mother suffered from a stinging sensation in her throat during the evacuation.
They were told by the airport that it was only a security exercise, she added.
Another, named Gerry wrote: "Clearly wasn't a security exercise - not unless the airport was releasing something to make us cough/sneeze too.

He added: "No attack - there were some fumes escaping - we were outside for about 20 mins."
A third person suggested that a can of pepper spray inside someone's luggage had exploded, though this could not be confirmed.
According to social media reports, the evacuation has finished and passengers have returned to the terminal.
