Cops investigating after body of an unknown man was found on beach in Cornwall

Officials raced to the scene following reports of tragic man's body being found across rocks near cliffside by passerby

THE BODY of a man has been found beneath cliffs at Tolcarne Beach in Newquay, Cornwall, by a member of the public.

Police and the coastguard rushed to the scene following reports of the discovery on Wednesday at 12:10pm.

The beach was closed while emergency services recovered the body, and re-opened at 3:00pm when an ambulance left the scene.

Officers have launched an investigation into the tragic discovery, and are appealing for information.

Speaking on the case, a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Emergency services are currently at the scene of a incident on Tolcarne Beach, Newquay.

"Police were called at 12.10pm on Wednesday 5th October following reports of a body of a man being found on the beach.

"An investigation is now underway and enquiries ongoing.

"Anyone who has information has been asked to contact police via email on [email protected].uk or by telephone on 101, quoting log 318 of 05/10/16."

A coastguard spokesman said: "One of our teams is there just assisting the police.

“It's a police incident which is ongoing but they have asked for our assistance there."
