Dogs licking their paws in heatwave is warning to pet owners – here’s why
PET owners are being warned to keep an eye on their dogs in the heatwave - as one common habit could be a sign they are in danger.
Brits are being told to monitor their pooches if they see them licking their paws as the country is gripped by a 33C heatwave.
As temperatures soar, the sunny days will overheat tarmac, pavement, sand and other surfaces.
Even shorter walks on scorching surfaces can cause dogs severe harm to their paws.
Other signs that man's best friend is struggling with the heat include heavy panting, drooling, shaking or showing bright red gums.
Pained pets may even chew their paws to relieve the painful itching caused by paw pad burns.

Owners can check for paw burn by looking regularly for blisters, redness or darkening of paw pads.
They are also advised to walk dogs early in the morning or late in the evening when the heat is less intense.
Walking pets on grass rather than pavement can further reduce the risk of paw burn.

This comes as Network Rail have told customers to expect even more delays on the train lines due to the heatwave.
These follow the severe delays caused by 70's style strike action by the RMT Union last month.
There are even suggestions it may be too hot for people to work from home, which can be the case under 1990s employment legislation.
